Creating a good StereoLithography (STL) file with I-DEAS
Note: For good replication of important curved surfaces set the "part" ISOLINE DENSITY under the APPEARANCE icon to 2 BEFORE Exporting.
- Select FILE, EXPORT, RAPID PROTOTYPE FILE.
- Click on the model to be converted to STL format (ensuring the complete part is picked).
- Select the following settings from the dialogue box:
- Prototype Device - SLA500.DAT
- Absolute facet deviation - 0.01
- Output file type - BINARY
- Select OK.
Note: The above parameters work as long as the "SLA500.DAT" file is set up to export in millimeters. You can open this file and change it to millimeters if necessary and re-save it within a text editor such as Notepad, etc.
